Die Auslegung des Neuen Testaments will und muss theologisch immer neu verantwortet werden. Der erste Teil der Aufsatzsammlung bietet Studien zur Geschichte der neutestamentlichen Forschung von der Aufklärung bis in das 20. Jahrhundert. Dabei gilt ein besonderes Augenmerk dem Wirken von Adolf Jülicher, Albert Schweitzer und Werner Georg Kümmel sowie der Lage der neutestamentlichen Wissenschaft im Umfeld des Zweiten Weltkriegs. Der zweite Teil enthält exegetische Studien zu verschiedenen Themen und Aspekten des Neuen Testaments.
